About Us

Koron Family Winery

We are a family-owned estate, run by Borut together with his wife Milojka and their three sons. Twenty years ago, Borut took over a mixed farm from his parents, which included a few vineyards and orchards. Step by step, we began transforming the farm into a winery, gradually planting new vineyards and expanding our wine selection. Today, we cultivate 12 hectares of vineyards planted with both white and red grape varieties, along with 1.5 hectares of orchards where we grow cherries and persimmons.

The heart of our winery is divided into two worlds. In the larger part, our wines mature in modern stainless steel tanks, preserving their freshness and varietal character. Beneath it lies our newly built stone cellar, a place of tradition and patience, where our sparkling wines and still wines rest and develop complexity in oak barrels.
The wines we produce are fresh, with a strong emphasis on varietal character. Grapes of optimal ripeness are harvested and gently pressed in a pneumatic press, which prevents oxidation and preserves the must’s primary aromas. For selected vintages, carefully chosen grapes are used to craft wines that mature in wooden barrels.

Our vineyards stretch across the hillsides surrounding the village of Brje, where marl dominates the soil, and down in the valley, where loamy soils prevail. This mix of terroirs, together with subtle variations in ripening, gives our wines a distinctive personality. We are committed to sustainable viticulture: the vineyards are mostly grass-covered, and all cultivation between the rows is carried out with mechanical methods, respecting the balance of nature.

What Else We Do

The excellent locations and natural conditions of the Vipava Valley allow us to grow juicy fruit. On our estate, we cultivate around 400 cherry trees, which ripen in May and June, and 400 persimmon trees, which are harvested in October. We invite you to experience a guided wine tasting at our estate, paired with traditional cured meats produced on our farm. The visit includes a tour of our winery and a tasting in the cozy stone tasting room, where you can savor the character and freshness of our wines.

History

Nestled in the village of Brje, our farm and winery are part of a region with a deep-rooted winemaking heritage. While our grandparents and great-grandparents cultivated the vine, farms back then were smaller and not fully dedicated to viticulture as ours is today. Twenty years ago, we intensified our commitment to viticulture, constructing a larger winery and planting new vineyards. Today, our twelve hectares of vineyards flourish with a selection of white and red grape varieties, forming the heart of our winemaking.
